Halo Reach
Death of Emile

I watched as the last remaining Brute Chieftain drop to the rain-soaked pavement with various bullet wounds embedded into it's flesh.

Even with the last of the Covenant forces on the landing pad were killed, but my senses were still telling me that there are bound to be more of them.

And my instincts were telling me soon... very soon that they'll come.

I release the clip of my M392 DMR and refreshed it with a new one, readying myself if the Covenant bound themselves to show up.

I could feel the landing pad vibrate as Emile fired the Mass Driver into the oncoming Banshees, blowing them out of Her sky.

One by one...

As my gaze drifted towards the oncoming Pelican, the Pelican that's holding the UNSC's most highly skilled strategist and inspirational leader among the their Navy;

Captain Jacob Keyes.

As the Pelican landed on the landing pad and opened the back hatch, I could see three Marines and the Captain himself.

I placed the M392 DMR onto the back of my MJOLNIR and I approached the Pelican, I could see the Captain jump off the aerial vehicle and walked towards me.

The Marines follow suit and surrounded us, making sure that Captain Keyes was very well protected.

I dislodged the Package, a Package of great importance that Halsey herself that could end the Covenant-Human War, off my back and held it in my palms.

"Good to see you, Spartan. Halsey assured me I could count on you."

I handed the Package into Captain Keyes' hands.

"Not just me, sir."

This was true, it was literally not just me...

With the extreme help of Noble Team; including with both Kat, Carter and Jorge to make it this far.

Or else... there would be no way.

I watched the Captain extend his hand and grasped my upper forearm to show his appreciationship.

"They'll be remembered."

With that, he turned back towards the Pelican, but I saw him stop short with his direction in the sky.

I looked up and followed the Captain's gaze.

There!

I could see a moving shadow...

But not just any shadow, that shadow belonged to the Covenant.

Also not just any cruiser, that is the CCS-class Battlecruiser...

And they're damn well known for glassing the entire planet.

And she's heading straight for the Captain's ship, the Pillar of Autumn!

"Cruiser, adjusting heading for the Autumn!"

The sound of his voice was frantic with worry...

If the Covenant destroyed the Pillar of Autumn and the Package, this war would all be for nothing.

And I mean, Nothing!

"Noble Four, I need fire on that cruiser or we're not getting out of here! Do you copy?"

I could hear my COM link static before I could hear Emile's voice with his response...

"You'll have your window, sir."

Captain Keyes turned and immediately got on board the Pelican and radioed in to the bridge of his ship...

"Bridge, this is the Captain. We have the Package. Returning to the Autumn, over."

I could hear the Marine in the Autumn's bridge replying to their Captain,

"Copy that."

Then I noticed a sound.

And I recognize that sound from anywhere.

It was the sound of Phantoms... and they're coming towards us!

I immediately pulled out my M392 DMR and braced myself for the oncoming force that my instincts were telling me earlier.

I watched a Phantom approach the two Pelicans, firing its plasma bolts.

The lead Pelican that was protecting the Captain was not so lucky...

After a series of plasma bolts hitting its metal hull and engine, the Pelican was losing its altitude and swerving to my location.

My eyes widened and leapt away before the Pelican could crash-land on top of me.

Luckily for Keyes' Pelican, it managed to evade the series of plasma bolts and escape towards the docking bay of the Autumn.

I readied my M392 DMR and faced the Phantom.

But before I could even fire a single round off my M392, the Phantom fired its plasma bolts at me.

With little cover surround my location, I lifted my forearm to my visor and prayed to God that neither of the bolts would hit me.

And luckily with either my prayer was answered or just by sheer luck, none of the plasma bolts hit me.

Or maybe it was just a diversion for something more sinister...?

Before I could place the puzzle pieces together, the Phantom dropped off two of the marooned-armored Elite Zealots next to the Mass Driver.

I could hear Emile yell out in surprise through the COM link and saw one of the marooned-armored Zealot raise its Energy Sword at him.

But that Zealot is knocked off of its feet by Emile's trusty shotgun blast and drops the Energy Sword.

I watched that Elite fall on its back to the deck and I also watched as Emile raised himself from the seat of the Mass Driver.

He raised his shotgun and fired a second shot, in point-blank range into the fallen Elite's chest, killing the Elite instantly.

"Who's next?!"

Then I remembered that there were TWO Zealots that were dropped onto the deck instead of one!

Before I could warn Emile of the second Zealot, the second Elite impaled him from behind with its Energy Sword.

I could hear Emile gasping for breath.

And my heart sank...

I knew it is over for him.

As the Elite removed the Energy Sword from Emile's midsection, the marooned-armored Zealot grasp his throat and hung him in the air, showing triumph over its defeated enemy.

As my COM emitted the sounds of static, followed by Emile's strong, but firm voice,

"I'm ready! How 'bout you?!"

I watched the final act of Emile as he pulled out his kukri that he's been sharpening on his shoulder armor ever since I first met him on the first mission of Noble Team, and impaled the large, carved blade into the neck of the Zealot.

The Elite lost its balance and began to tumble off the Mass Driver, taking Emile with it.

I wanted to rush to Emile's location to check if he was still alive, but to my very disappointment, there was no way that anyone could survive such a blow like that.

I could feel a burning sensation of hatred against the Covenant growing within my chest.

Within my heart... I long to make the Covenant to pay dearly for all the causes that they done against Earth's both Inner and Outer Colonies.

I felt my hand trembling at the thought.

But before I could put any action in place, the Captain's Pelican returned to the landing pad that where I handed him the Package.

The back hatch opened.

One of the Marines was calling out to me,

"Lieutenant, get on board! We gotta get the hell out of here!"

In my mind, I really would join them on the Pillar of Autumn and live another day, facing the Autumn's challenges with the crew.

But in my heart... my heart tell me that I belong here.

Telling me that I should stay on Reach with the remnants of my Noble Team...

And all of my other Spartan brothers and sisters that served their purpose on Reach's holy ground.

So, I must stay on Reach... for the sake of my brethren and all those who lost their lives to the Covenant.

"Negative. I have the gun."

I turned my back to the Marines, and with my confident feelings,

"Good luck, sir."

I could feel the Captain's eyes penetrating through me, thinking that I was doing the right thing - not just for his sake.

Its for the sake of all humanity and my fellow Spartans that fell in battle.

Before the hatch of the Pelican closed, I could hear the Captain whisper...

It was filled with sadness and pride, and was directly at me,

"Good luck to you, Spartan."

And the Captain's Pelican flew in direction of the Pillar of Autumn.

I crawled through the rain-covered deck where the Mass Driver is.

The pain in my chest and stomach was intensifying by every second.

And my breaths were becoming more and more difficult by that very second.

And somewhere in my dying mind, I knew that I failed...

Failed the Captain to protect him from the incoming Covenant...

Failed Carter with the extremely important mission...

And extremely failed Noble Six and the rest of Noble Team.

I managed to crawl to the railing of the deck.

And with the last ounce of my strength, I pulled myself into a comfortable sitting position.

The pain has intensified that the following numbness were starting to follow suit.

My eyes were starting to get blurry and my mind is losing its focus on the world and what's around me.

But luckily for me, I manage to catch a glimspe of Six...

Slowly, but surely, making his way to my location.

And he knows what has to be done.

For the sake both the Captain...

And for the sake of all Reach...

Before I past the 'final gate', I caught the sight of Jorge.

He was smiling at me, obviously impressed with my deeds of this important mission.

I uttered a very weak chuckle,

"I know... Big Guy. Tell... Noble One... that I'll be... there in... a moment."

As I said the final word, I let out my final sigh... and my head slowly drifting to the side.

To indicate that I have passed the torch.

And everything went dark and I embraced the warm, comfort feeling of paradise.

Halo (c) Bungie (343 Industries)

Story (c) ~Silverfang53

P.S - The first paragraph consists of Six's PoV while the second paragraph consists of Emile's PoV (there's a big gap between the two).

P.P.S - Sorry for the confusion guys, but I made Noble Six as a male throughout these entries.
BUT you can imagine Six as a female, since I have no specific gender for Six.
